Sayers is that go-to place when you want to be sure that you will be served good food.. even if you haven’t been there for many months. It is definitely one of my old favourites, and extra brownie points for serving all-day breakfast on Sunday!
I went last weekend for a Sunday brunch session, we had a table of nine.. so the service was a bit slow, but it was understandable considering the size of our group and how busy the place was.
The croquettes were crunchy on the outside from the fried breadcrumbs, with fluffy potato and slithers of salted beef inside. Mixed with the tangy tomato relish and gooey yolk of the eggs, it was a really great dish packed full of flavour. The ciabatta crostini was a good crusty accompaniment; perfect for dipping into the relish and eggs.
I was the very last to get my food.. I think they had forgotten about my order, as a waiter came to our table and asked if we were still waiting on anything. Luckily, I had already eaten a bit of the croquettes my fiancé ordered or else I wouldn’t have been a happy camper!
What I loved about the doughnuts was the warmth of the dish from the custard filling and the hot chocolate; making it a great winter dessert. The poached pears were delicious and sweet and complimented the hot chocolate, and the praline provided a crunchy, textural element. However, I couldn’t taste much lemon in the custard or saffron.
