In the heart of Claremont you can find a little slice of Brooklyn. Brooklyn Lounge specialises in North American-style dishes which are served in a hip space with exposed-brick walls and leather couches.
On a Saturday afternoon during peak lunch hour, I was surprised how quiet it was.. but that meant with a group of four, we were seated right away. We each chose a dish to share and the food came out soon after. The buffalo wings were coated in a sticky, tangy sauce and served with a few cucumber batons on the side which provided freshness to the dish. Slightly caramelised skin with juicy, tender chicken inside – the wings were flavoursome and cooked well. However, I didn’t enjoy the blue cheese sauce which was way too pungent for my liking. Coated in a crunchy, golden breadcrumbs filled with risotto and mushroom. Although the risotto was cooked well, I would have liked to see some chunky mushroom pieces inside to elevate the flavours. You can probably tell by now.. I avoided the blue cheese sauce as it overpowered everything else. As promised on the menu, the fries were crispy on the outside with a soft potato interior. Unfortunately, I could not really taste the truffle. It would have been better if the fries were tossed in the parmesan and truffle oil, rather than just sprinkled over the top. I admit that I am not one to order salad when eating out.. I feel like salad should be left for the mundane regular weekday lunch.. but you can’t choose every single dish when eating with friends. Definitely the only healthy option on the table, it was filled with fresh spinach leaves and slices of sweet pear and the walnuts provided a crunchy element. Again – gave the blue cheese a miss. Definitely could not leave without trying the s’mores; layers of rich, decadent choc chip cookies sandwiched with pillowy soft marshmallow, drizzled with nutella. This dessert is one to be shared.. it’s recommended to serve two but we shared amongst four and were all satisfied. I loved that the cookies were soft and chewy, and the addition of peanut butter provided a hint of saltiness to balance it all off.
From the food to the drinks and the decor, everything here nods to the trendy Big Apple borough. If you are craving American-style food, Brooklyn Lounge is worth a try.. even if you do come by only for the dessert!
